FALLING FILM EVAPORATOR
A Falling Film Evaporator is an industrial device to concentrate solutions, particularly with heat sensitive components. This type of evaporator is a unique kind of heat exchanger.
The evaporators are receptive to fouling from precipitating solids owing to close contact of the liquid with the heating surface; liquor velocity, usually low at liquor inlet (see above) is normally not adequate to execute an effectual self-cleaning of the tubes. Falling Film evaporators are thus used in clean, non-precipitating liquids. Facilitating concentration of caustic soda is the usual application of such a device in chemical industry.
RISING FILM EVAPORATOR
A Rising Film Evaporator or Vertical Long Tube Evaporator is a kind of evaporator that is necessarily a vertical shell and tube heat exchanger. The liquid undergoing evaporation is added from the underside into long tubes and heated with steam condensing on the outside of the tube from the shell side. This produces steam and vapor within the tube and enabling the liquid to reaching boil point. The vapor generated then compresses the liquid against the inside surface of the tubes and stirs the exaggerated force of this liquid. As more vapor is produced, the tube centre gains higher velocity which presses the remaining liquid against the inside surface of the tube forming a thin film which moves vertically up. The name Rising Film therefore is accorded to the evaporator because of this phenomenon.
Rising Tube Evaporators are used for a broad spectrum of applications encompassing production of polymers, effluent treatment, food production, pharmaceuticals, thermal desalination, and solvent recovery. For usage within aforesaid industries, rising tube evaporators are principally used as reboilers for distillation columns, or as pre-heaters or pre-concentrators or flash evaporators manufactured to remove volatile components before stripping.
MULTIPLE EFFECT EVAPORATORS
In the chemical engineering field, Multiple-Effect Evaporator is defined as an apparatus for proficiently utilizing the heat from steam to evaporate water. In a multiple-effect evaporator, water is boiled in a series of vessels, each arranged at a lower pressure than the previous one. Since the boiling temperature of water reduces as pressure reduces, the vapor produced in one vessel can be utilized to heat the next; in the entire activity only the first vessel (at the highest pressure) needs an external source of heat. While in theory, evaporators may be constructed with a subjectively several stages, evaporators with more than four stages are seldom practical with the exception of being in systems where the liquor is the desired product, for example, in chemical recovery systems where up to seven effects are put to use.
